Postive Pregnany Test Shocker
We found out on 8th April 2010 I was expecting again wooohoooo. It was a big shock to us both, as we had not started trying and I was planning on going back on the fertility treatment in June. I had'nt even had a period and my last miscarriage was confirmed on 3rd March 2010, which was the hardest one out of the 4 I suffered.
Did another pregnancy test the next day to make sure, the line was thicker and darker- a good sign! Then to make sure did another on 12th which was darker and thicker than I ve ever seen! :) I did a digital test to see how many wks I could be- said 4 wks approx. which means conception around 3 wks after miscarriage.
So I was excited yet scared, I was thinking will this pregnancy continue sooo soon after loosing a baby and not having a cyle?? But we were and still are over the moon trying not to be over excited this time.
It was so hard keeping to ourselves, but wanted to wait and tell our close family after the first scan which was not long to wait. We wanted to check the pregnancy was progressing.
First Appointment
I went to Norfolk and Norwich Hospital to visit the specialist team of Mr Warren the top Gynae Consultant. This appointment was initally for recurrent miscarriage tests, to see if I can carry a baby in the future. I called to give them the heads up that I am pregnant again and will be around 5 weeks. They had investigated my records and could confirm from previous scans and tests my womb could carry! :) the next stage to testing would be genetic testing which would require my eggs and Steves sperm. They said its best to leave this one as it takes 8 wks for the testing and I am already pregnant. I reported the strong ab pains I had on the left and minor pains on the right aswell as swelling. They referred me to the EPU for the afternoon which I was happy about.
First Scan
After a long wait me and Mum had hanging around at hospital, finally it was 3pm and I was at the EPU.(Steve couldnt get time out of work to come with me) Feeling very nervous and nauseaus,I saw the early pregnancy specalist who said my hormone blood tests show good level of pregnancy this time :) did an internal scan and guess what, there was a healthy little tiny embryo there in the right place. I called Mum in so she could see the surprise, she was so thrill and shocked to see I was pregnant again!
The dr checked my ovaries on the ultra sound, right one had a cluster of small cysts, said this was causing some minor pain, on the left- one 5cm diametre cyst, he said no wonder your in pain! He wanted to monitor this large cyst and advised me not to exercise or have sex as this could cause the cyst to rupture(god dont want that happening it is sooo painful I cant explain it!) He wanted to do another scan in 11 days to check little buba is doing ok and to measure the cyst again. I called Steve right away to tell him there is a approx 5 wk embryo in the right place, he was so happy, then told him about the bad news with the cyst.
When I got back we wanted to go and show Steve's Mum the scan picture, but Rox was on her way to cut my hair. So Steve went on his own, and surprised His Mum, Becky, Alan and Frank by showing them the ultra scan of little 'Yolky' (cos you can see the yolk sac) Brier, Byron, Rose and Jack were there too and saw the picture(too early to tell the kids really) and all were thrilled and could not believe the good news. Steve called his Dad after to annouce it that was it- no more telling for a long while.... God it was hard having Rox over cutting my hair, I was so excited but was good and didnt tell her about being pregnant just about the cyst.
So everyone wanted to know the outcome of my investigation, so I told them about the test results that I could carry and about the cyst.
Week after
Morning sickness had set in on the tuesday, was vomiting at work and only just made it to the loo! Everyone said I looked tired and so pale, said it was just the cysts playing up (good I have another reason to blame it on!)
Pain started getting worse on the left, and I came out in a red bumpy rash on my neck, chest and face, god it was ichty.
Man I was getting so tired was in bed by 9pm most nights, and couldnt do anything in the eves completely exhausted. Mum was great cooking and cleaning for us :)
Rash got worse, had spread under my arms, down to my tummy and back and was in my ears, up nose and eyes. I could'nt keep my eyes open a work they itched like crazy, I looked a right weirdo and everyone in the office was just starring at me lol It was driving me nuts that I couldnt see the computer, I called the dr who said I can take piriton which is safe in pregnancy and it sounded like an allergic reaction or a pregnancy rash(I'd never heard of it). I took a tablet, helped my eyes quickly but not much else.
I got some antihistmine cream and stopped taking the tablets, was worried it would affect the baby. Started to clear up much quicker.
Saturday night I went to Michelles for her Hen gathering, was hard keeping to myself, explaining my rash and massive tummy (was the cyst, baby was too small) I was feeling really rough with the neausea and had to leave early.
Midwife appointment
Michaela came to visit us at home on the Sunday, I had weighed myself just before for her- God I had put on 4lb in a couple of wks! Was 9st3lbs went upto 9st7lbs! Well I was eating a little more because wanted to make sure having enough calories for the baby to grow and I was not allowed to exercise, was being so careful hardly moved about!
Midwife went through everything with us and left me with lots of pregnancy information books diaries and my notes in a folder. Surprised Steve didnt ask any silly questions lol like will the Clorine in the pool kill the baby?
I was feeling very rough all afternoon, layed on the sofa reading all the booklets she left me.
2nd Scan
On the way to hospital I had really bad nausea in the car, was also scared something would be wrong. So glad Steve could make it.
Scan was good we saw little buba, had grown so much in 11 days and saw heartbeat- was amazing. Cyst had also grown :( now 5.8cms diametre (may need removing at 14wks), good news was that the small cysts on the right had disapeared! Dr said I had most likely absorbed them or they had burst.
We both couldnt stop smiling and the picture remains in our heads of the heartbeating. Shame no scan pic this time :(
Was very sick after and went into work, was sick and didnt quite make it to the toilet was on the floor in the loo and on the toilet seat! lol I had to clean it up. I thought best I carry a travel sized mouthwash in my handbag from now on!
Sick again badly the next day too woke up mum and Dad with throwing up, couldnt keep water down and had to keep leaving the office and meetings to be sick. I was so stressed trying to do my work and feeling like the room was spinning and trying to get all the way to the loo in time! Its all good though because it mean hormones are rising fast.
Dehydrated I couldnt function called the dr to see if anything I could take, she said give it 24 hrs then call back if still not keeping anything down. Didnt think morning sickness was this bad. Still being sick in the evening and shaking with servere headache, couldnt do a thing.
Next morning, I couldnt move, Steve had to get a bucket in bed with me was constantly sick stomach hurt and throat from reaching. I couldnt get up let alone showered and down the stairs, I had to wee, so struggled to get to the loo and legs wobberly falling all over the place. I had to call in sick cos I physically couldnt get into to work. i then got worse..... :( and the next day.... Dr said if continues need to go into to hospital for an IV she thinks I have HG (Hyperemesis)
Started keeping fluid and rich tea down now :) Lets hope it is going away and I am ok for Michelle and Daves Wedding on Saturday.
